Together We’re Better

Grace is the glue that binds us to each other—regardless of ability, age, or any other defining characteristic.

Since 2004, UCNS has been committed to being an inclusive preschool program. We believe that each child is a gift to our world, and we strive to celebrate all children as the unique individuals God created them to be

Dedicated Staffing

We go beyond standard ratios by hiring up to one Inclusion Aide per class annually. These dedicated staff members work closely with our team to support children with unique needs.

Professional Oversight

Our Staffing & Inclusion Coordinator mentors our team, training staff to modify the program and meet every child exactly where they are in their development.

Community Partnership

We collaborate with local special education teams and private therapists to provide a mainstream setting where children can practice emerging skills alongside peers.

Biblical Affirmation of Inclusion

The first Bible verse we teach our preschoolers is “I praise you because I am wonderfully made!” (Psalm 139:14). We believe that all children are lovingly created and inherently precious. Each child is a gift to our program and world, and we strive to celebrate all children as the unique individuals God created them to be.

As a Christian preschool, we believe that “we have different gifts, according to the grace given us,” (Romans 12:6a) and that disability is a normal part of life in an imperfect world that needs Jesus.

We cling to that truth because each of our lives is a mixture of blessedness and brokenness. It is in our imperfection that we are best able to see our need for one another, and to understand that we are intended to live interconnected lives, to care for each other, and to share our stories.

Inclusion is not only for the benefit of children with disabilities and their families, but also an opportunity to positively shape the worldview of children while impacting their families and our local community. Inclusion builds compassion, kindness, and mercy into our lives, impacting our hearts and character, and eventually changing our world.

Why Inclusion Matters

Compassion: Developing a concrete understanding of human dignity and opportunities to practice kindness, compassion and justice.

Belonging: Experiencing a positive community where they are known and loved.

Celebration: Having their unique gifts and contributions recognized.

For Every Student

Modeling: Learning social and pre-academic skills from typically developing peers.

Belonging: Experiencing a positive community where they are known and loved; and both our similarities and difference are celebrated as making our community stronger.

Celebration: Having their unique gifts and contributions recognized; and their reality that all humans also experience challenges.

For Diverse Learners

We are committed to serving eligible children to the extent of our staffing and financial ability. Sharing information about a disability does not impact your child’s lottery placement.

Readiness & Registration

Once registered, we use a Parent Perspectives Survey and potential classroom observations to ensure we can provide the safety and support necessary for your child to thrive.

In the event a child is not yet ready for a mainstream setting, we offer priority registration for the following year to allow time for early intervention.

A Community Effort

Our inclusive model requires extensive annual fundraising to cover specialized staffing costs. We are deeply grateful to our church and UCNS families for their partnership in making this mission possible.
